About Let's Yusuf Scholarship
Yusuf Scott Neville, was an exceptional individual and graduate of both Hillside High School and Hampton University. Yusuf was known for his tireless efforts and encouragement towards others. His passion for running and commitment to physical well-being led him to complete an unplanned marathon along the Great Wall of China, demonstrating his resilience and support for fellow runners.

Yusuf achieved remarkable success during his academic journey, including being a state wrestling champion at Hillside High School and excelling in the Project SEED advanced math and science program. He also became a master lifeguard while working for the City of Durham and North Carolina Central University's summer camp. At Hampton University, Yusuf managed their aquatics center and shifted his academic focus to business. His dedication and skills later led him to become an award-winning manager in sales and customer service.

Yusuf's upbringing as an only child instilled in him the value of perseverance, supported by a loving community of elders and his Kappa Alpha Psi brethren. His untimely passing in 2014 due to suicide left a lasting impact on those who knew him. To honor Yusuf's memory and legacy, this scholarship aims to support Hillside graduates who follow in his footsteps and contribute to the Hampton University community.

As we honor Yusuf's impressive accomplishments throughout his life we want to highlight a significant achievement from 2003. In February of that year, Yusuf was one of two students from Hillside High School to participate in the Junior Science and Humanities Symposium at UNC Charlotte. His paper was one of nine chosen from across the state. This is just one of the examples from which Yusuf demonstrated his drive to succeed and his love of education. We are inspired to continue his legacy by providing similar opportunities for students through the OLY Scholarship.
